July

the girls in all their
summer dresses
flowing & flowered
walking in crosswalks
& under the trees
floating like las mariposas
in the summer breeze
enthrall me

I am so old

but I feel younger
longing to hold
a hand a heart
on a twilight street
I feel hope:
the girl inside me
still wants to meet
a girl in summer
in cotton
in sandals
who smells like a flower
who can make time stop
if for only an hour

    That’s a really nice poem. And I don’t often like poems… (I don’t have my mom’s poetry genes).
