“Feh…those Islamists are a bunch of vakakta, meshugge zhlubs who always kvetching, kvetching, kvetching. OY.”
Okay, so there was no Yiddish language back in 30AD, but Jesus was, after all, a Jew. And if he is lurking about watching us nowadays, he is probably feeling somewhat farblondget.
Deepak Chopra, a New Age-y writer of consumer-oriented spirituality, wrote an article for “The Huffington Post” recently, asking the question, “What Would Jesus Do About Islam?”
Chopra’s answer to that question was rather less than satisfying.
Yes, Jesus did say to turn the other cheek if some bully punched your lights out on the playground of life. But that was back in the day when turning the other cheek might mean a slap across the face. According to the tenents of Radical Islam, the Qur’an and the Hadith, turning the other cheek means you get your head chopped off.
Chopra writes, “If we honestly asked what Jesus would do about Islam, it’s obvious that his solution wouldn’t be war. He might even apply the Golden Rule. So far, President Obama has been more Christian than his predecessor, not by applying Christian principles but by treating Muslims with common humanity, tolerance, and understanding.”
Well, imagine if Jesus is in bed and the red phone rings at 3am and the caller says Radical Islamists are persecuting and killing Jews, Christians, gays and…well, everyone who isn’t a Muslim. Would he be feeling real “tolerant or “understanding”?
Chopra makes it sound like Islamists are just having some adolescent growing pains and so when they throw their little temper tantrums by hanging gays and beheading infidels, we should all just shut up and respect their process.
No, Jesus would no doubt not be in favor of starting a war. The problem is that Islam itself has already started a dadgum war…a war on everyone who does not believe that there is only one god named Allah who has one prophet named Mohammed.
The Golden Rule is “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” So is Chopra saying that Jesus would be okay with such an unequal playing field?
I don’t want to have my head chopped off or be hanged and I certainly have no intention of doing those things to anyone else. The problem is that radical Islamists don’t believe in The Golden Rule. If a follower of Islam chops off your neighbor’s head because he or she is an infidel, you can say, “Gosh, Dude…I forgive you for that. No worries…that’s okay” and tolerate his odd behaviour. But the thing is, he ain’t sorry. And when you turn your other cheek, he’ll behead you as well.
So, getting back to Jesus. Jesus was a Jew and Islam hates Jews, so he might be thinking, “Crucify me once, shame on you. Crucify me twice, shame on me. I’m not going through that mishegoss again.”
His father (God) said through Moses, “Thou shalt not kill.” Allah said through Muhammed, “I will cast terror into the hearts of those who disbelieved, so strike [them] upon the necks and strike from them every fingertip.” (Qur’an 8:12)
So no, Jesus probably wouldn’t be advocating murder, but he would be the one lone soul out on the dusty road warning his peeps not to let the whiny, oh-woe-is-me Islamists hoodwink his followers.
Jesus was not a Christian, but he would probably be telling all of the leaders of the various congregations who borrowed his name to stop molly-coddling the dadgum Islamists and take care of their people who come to church every Sunday for community, coffee and cake. He would point out that Islamists don’t do community, coffee and cake. In fact, followers of Islam aren’t allowed to do much of anything that’s fun at all.
Deepak Chopra says that Barack Obama is engaging Muslims “not by applying Christian principles but by treating Muslims with common humanity, tolerance, and understanding.”
What the heck does THAT mean?!?! Chopra asks WWJD about Islam and then praises the POTUS for not applying the principles of Jesus.
Okay, so bottom line, What would Jesus do about Islam? He would preach to the dozing masses ad nauseum to Wake Up and demand a Constitutional Amendment banning Sharia Law.
But what about the blurring of church and state? you may ask. Jesus preaching for a Constitutional Amendment? Politics and religion?
Islam is not a “religion” like any other religion. Islam controls the lives of its followers in every way possible, from how many times a day they pray to how they handle their money and abuse their women.
Jesus, I think, would not be adverse to fighting fire with some fire of his own.
